- Lincoln and the Problem of Civil Liberties
Monday, January 4th, 6:30 p.m.
Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library
Abraham Lincoln is rightly remembered as one of the greatest presidents in our nation's history.
Yet in suspending the writ of habeas corpus several times during the war, he took a drastic step
in curbing civil liberties. Join us as we discuss Lincoln's management of dissent during the war,
and compare his actions to subsequent presidents, including Wilson during World War One, and
Johnson during the Vietnam War.
Presented by Susan Shulten, Department of History, University of Denver.
